7 Easy Steps to Overcome Writer’s Block

By: Alcides Alvarado

Has been more than a year since I started my blog and until this day I still struggle when I’m in front of the computer.  Sometimes I set and I try to focus on what I’m going to write or even sometimes went I know what I’m going to write, I found myself stuck running out of ideas, let’s face it every writer or blogger has the same problem, it’s very frustrating because you start to look at the time that it’s moving on and you still there with an empty screen in front of you, you may think well over time and with a lot practice it become easy but I guess it doesn’t  work that way, since you are constantly creating content and writing, you always have the doubt and the worry that don’t repeat yourself.

I remember, at the beginning It used to take me almost two weeks to write a blog post (small blog post) and the end product wasn’t of my satisfaction, so it used to frustrate me a lot. A couple of time it cross my mind quick writing and just forget about the all blogger thing, and move to something else but I guess went you really love something you will always find a way to make things work and if you keep persisting you end up getting better and you discover ways to achieve your goals.

To overcome writer’s blocks, I had found great practices that have helped me a lot and I hope that at least one of them can help you to unlock your creativity. I will not promise you that you’re never going to have a writer block anymore, but at least you will know what to do, to move forward on your writing.

Change your environment

One of the best things that you can do went you have a block is change your environment, move somewhere else, believe me, you can’t go wrong with this, what I usually do is to take my laptop and go to Starbucks or a library. I get a cup of coffee and problem solve.

I’m not a big drinker, but once in a while I love to enjoy one or two glasses of wine and what I have found with this, it’s that with two glasses of wine my brain become more loose and it’s easy for me to write, because I don’t over think before I write and them went I finish, I just go over my notes to see if I have to fix something.

Going for a walk it’s a great idea to do because you can disconnect your mind of the project and get some inspiration from your surrenders, also you can enjoy some fresh air and you never know maybe you can end up, writing the best article of your life.

Reading it’s a great option to really remove a block, maybe you stuck with an idea and you don’t know what to write, if you take at least 30 min break and decide to take a book or maybe read an article believe me this will make a big difference.

Listen to instrumental music

Maybe what I’m about to say don’t make sense to you but while I read I like to put my headphones on and listen to music, it really helps me a lot when I have to write, now you may think that’s not a good Idea. All depends on the kind music, in my case it’s only instrumental music, there its one specific radio on Pandora that I love to use, its call “Electronic for Studying Radio” and that’s what I’m listens right now while I’m writing this.

 Open space

I try to do some research on this, but I couldn’t find anything but from my experience, went I set to write close to a big window where I have a lot of light especially in the morning, it really put me in my zone, I really don’t know the science behind this but it’s very helpful being close to a window while you read or write.

Just Write

Sometimes you just have to let inspiration flow and not worry about grammar errors, just write and try not to be a perfectionist at least at the moment that you are writing, because you can later comeback and fix the things that are not well written.

Writing is like any sort of long-term relationship. Somedays are great, other aren’t so great

Writing take a lot of work went you do it right, But it takes even more work went you do it wrong, that’s why so many people give up. It seems like you have to devote hours a day to write and consistently come up with great ideas.

Try this 7 thing, and you’ll be surprise at how much easier writing gets, it won’t be intimidating.
